Closing Weekend for Uintah Theater’s ‘25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’

Uintah High School’s theatre program rolled with the unexpected over the last year and crafted a spring musical that crowds are loving. Scaling down from ‘Mama Mia’ to ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ may have taken some getting used to but this smaller production has been a big hit with audiences and there’s only a few more nights to see it. “This is a small cast and a show that is just right for the times,” shares Uintah Theatre director Chris Piner. “The show is pure fun with a story and characters that really resonate.” While the title may not draw in those less familiar, Piner says they hope their past productions have built trust for when there are show selections that are lesser known. Plus, this show has a level of audience involvement that makes it unique and especially fun. Out of a cast of 10, four of the actors are freshmen, and one is a foreign exchange student from Paris, France. Piner says they have each put in the time needed and are giving their all. If you could use a fun night out as a family or alone, give this a shot. “Everyone walks out smiling and laughing,” shares Piner. “It’s also only 90 minutes with no intermission so it’s a perfect length.” The final three performances are tonight, Friday, and Saturday with curtain at 7pm.
