In an effort to help people understand why the Uintah County Library is investing in e-book services with Libby over Hoopla, Library Director Sam Passey has shared the cost differences between the two. “In 2022,” shares Passey, “we spent $22,082 on Libby (also known as Overdrive) as part of a state-wide cooperative where every library pays in and shares resources with many other public libraries. Uintah County Library patrons checked out 76,413 items making a per-checkout cost average of twenty eight cents. For Hoopla we paid $24,000 and patrons were able to check out 10,474 items. This makes the Hoopla per-checkout cost an average of $2.29 each.” It is the library’s plan to continue to increase the availability of e-books and e-audiobooks on Libby and shorten the current wait times.
