More counties in the United States experienced population gains than losses in 2023. About 60 percent of U.S. counties gained population from 2022 to 2023 which is up from 52 percent the year before. The West, with an average population change ranked highest among the four regions in 2022, fell behind the South in 2023. Uintah Basin counties landed mostly in the middle when it comes to growth in the state. The exception to this is Daggett County which has experienced the largest percentage drop in population statewide with numbers falling by about 2.3 percent. The Census Bureau is expected to release additional information specific to towns and cities at a later time.
