Seraph Young was the first female to cast a vote in Utah on February 14th, 1870. 150 years later, the Basin will be celebrating this momentous movement that forever changed the face of politics, women’s rights and modern America. Starting on Thursday, February 13th, there will be a special event as Uintah County Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins will present ‘Come Learn How To: “Make Your Vote Count”’. He will inform individuals about the Primary process during the presentation at the Uintah County Heritage Museum from 6pm to 7pm tonight. Those that come early will be able to view the new Women’s Suffrage display. If you have been following the museum on their Facebook page their countdown clock is counting down to when this very display will be open to the public on Friday, February 14th. Another Women’s Suffrage event will be put on by USU’s Year of the Woman. Emma Houston, director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office of Diversity Affairs, will share the history and significance of the movement with a special showing of the documentary ‘Iron Jawed Angels’ at the Uintah Conference Center on Saturday, February 15th, at 10am.
