More Fun to Come in Roosevelt With Redmud Run; ‘Fun on 40’
All this week we’ve highlighted the good going on in Roosevelt City and an upcoming event is a perfect example of the fun opportunities offered in the Roosevelt community. The annual Redmud & Color Run happens each year on the 4th of July at Roosevelt’s Constitution Park. The park is transformed into a big muddy, obstacle course. There are mud pits, swimming ponds, and hay bale towers for the filthiest fun you can have anywhere in the Basin this summer.
CIB Approves Funds to Complete Uinta Basin Rail project EIS
Utah’s Permanent Community Impact Fund Board met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, this time in Vernal, and drew a big crowd of locals there to support one of the agenda items concerning funding to complete the EIS process for the proposed Uinta Basin Rail project. While there were many comments and opinions shared during the meeting, board member Naghi Zeenati offered a unique perspective as he also serves on the Utah Department of Transportation Commission.
A River History Presentation by Uintah County Heritage Museum
The River Festival continues to give the Basin some unique opportunities to celebrate the John Wesley Powell expedition including River History Presentations coming up. The evening will have two presenters who are experienced river rafters who have had experience along the same route that the Powell expedition traveled.
Coordinator Urges Stop of Improper Use of Recycling Bins in Uintah County
The coordinator of the Uintah School District’s ‘Community Employment Placement Program’, the group responsible for operating the local recycling program, has some strong words for community members that choose to improperly use the recycling bins.

Vernal Man Arrested Following Fatal Boating Accident on Flaming Gorge
A Vernal man was arrested for homicide following a fatal boating accident on Flaming Gorge over the weekend. 25-year-old Corey Dale Eggleston was arrested on May 11th for DUI and Automobile Homicide – Causing Death With Alcohol Content Greater than .05. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause filed in 8th District Court, a Daggett County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a possible drowning on Flaming Gorge Reservoir at approximately 1:30pm.
*Midnight Tonight* Rocky Mountain Power Planned Outage for Uintah County
Rocky Mountain Power has spread the word and urged Uintah County residents and businesses to be prepared. A planned outage is taking place tonight from midnight until 5:00am in order to complete a necessary replacement of a three pole transmission structure that was vandalized by gun fire. The outage will affect all Rocky Mountain Power customers within Vernal, Naples, and the surrounding Uintah County area.
Prepare Homes for Wildfires
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office would remind the Uintah Basin residents that while all this rain has created some wonderful green scenery it can lead to very dangerous wildfires when it dries out. To help prepare, they have shared some tips from the National Fire Protection Association on being ready for wildfires. The first step is to create a basic defensible space by clearing dead vegetation and other items within 10 feet of the house and under decks and porches.
Agreement Reached for Chevron to Acquire Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
Chevron Corporation announced this month that they have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in a transaction valued at $33 billion dollars. A press release shared by Anadarko states that the acquisition of Anadarko will significantly enhance Chevron’s portfolio. “This transaction builds strength on strength for Chevron,” shares Chevron’s Chairman and CEO Michael Wirth.
