Campfire Safety Urged for Hunters/Campers

by | Aug 29, 2018 | News | 0 comments

With hunting season here, forest officials are sharing campfire safety reminders. The Forest Service is reminding hunters and campers of important practices. Clear any fire site down to the bare soil. Be sure there is containment of the fire using a fire ring of rocks or stones or better yet utilize an existing metal fire ring. Build fires away from trees, branches, steep slopes, dry grass, or leaves. Keep a minimum of 5 to 10 gallons of water and a shovel nearby. Never leave a fire unattended. Drown, stir, and drown again every fire. Make sure fire is cold to the touch before you leave. Also, do not burn garbage as it can start spot fires. For more information, contact the Forest Service.
