It was a common happening in Uintah County last week when an agricultural spring burn got a bit out of control and the fire department responded to stop the spread. In that case, which took place west of Vernal Avenue on 2500 North, a controlled burn got into the ditch bank and took off into a field. Tall grass and trees were burned but thankfully crews put it out before it reached any property. Vernal Fire Chief Sam Howard says the top thing they want to remind everyone of is that if you are going to burn, Central Dispatch needs to be notified every time. This applies to agricultural burns that are currently allowed as well as yard cleanup burning which doesn’t open until March 30th. Visit uintahfire.com and click on the Burn Permits tab for all the requirements and instructions for each type of burn. Always notify Central Dispatch at 435-789-4222, only burn away from buildings and structures, and have a water source on hand at all times during the burn.
