If you’re planning to enjoy some time on the Green River this week and next please pay attention. The Bureau of Reclamation Upper Colorado Region announced on Sunday that all are urged to use caution when recreating in or around the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam between June 6th and the 14th as the water will be colder than usual and will run high and swift. “These conditions can quickly overcome even the strongest swimmer,” shares the announcement. “Reclamation will perform a LTSP experimental release that will potentially include full powerplant releases and bypass releases totaling 8,600 cubic feet per second. The experiment is authorized through the 2006 Flaming Gorge Record of Decision and is part of the adaptive management process to recover endangered fish.” A forecasted hourly release schedule is available through the Colorado River Basin Forecast Center at www.cbrfc.noaa.gov.
