Brief Closure Of US-191 To Mobilize Heavy Equipment For Switchbacks Project

There will be a brief closure on Highway 191 north of Vernal tomorrow, March 21st. This
closure will be at the switchbacks to two-way traffic just north of Red Fleet State Park to
mobilize heavy equipment onto the job site for the US-191 realignment project. “Crews
anticipate that impacts will be minimal, with the closure lasting only 5 to 10 minutes
while vehicles are transported on and off the highway,” shares the UDOT announcement.
“The closure will occur sometime between 8am and 4pm. Motorists should expect minor
delays. Crews are preparing to start work on the US-191 project, which will replace the
switchback portion of the highway located 12 miles north of Vernal with a long
continuous curve that will be easier to navigate once complete. Other improvements will
include grade reductions in key locations, added climbing and passing lanes, an
emergency truck ramp, and more.” Travelers are asked to plan ahead by checking traffic
conditions at udot.utah.gov/traffic or by downloading the UDOT Traffic app.
