A Vernal man known for being community minded has had a full week. Brian Gorum was given a Certificate of Appreciation by the Vernal Chamber Public Relations Committee during the Chamber’s Tuesday luncheon for his work as the Chairman of Santa’s Community Effort, which provides gifts to local children in need every Christmas. The recognition comes on the heels of Gorum’s announcement that he has joined the race for Utah State Senate District 26. Brian and his wife Amy are well known in the community, Amy as a teacher at Naples Elementary for 18 years and Brian as a State Farm Insurance agent since the early 90’s. Brian’s community service over the years has included countless committees and leadership positions for the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, Uintah Basin Special Olympics, Uintah Arts Council, Vernal Rotary Club, and the Ashley Masonic Lodge. He’s been awarded the “Total Citizen of the Year” award by the Vernal Chamber, Utah Outstanding Volunteer by AARP, and Utah Shriner of the Year, among other recognitions through the years. Politically, Gorum has served as a Uintah County Republican Delegate and Utah State Republican Delegate numerous times. “I’m running to give rural Utah a voice,” shares Gorum. “I think it’s important that the legislature doesn’t forget that the people of the outlying Counties are still here. We are getting less representation and we have to take a stand and be united for the interests of rural Utah.” The
