Firefighters continue to work on the Boone Draw Fire 50 miles West of Craig. According to the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit, the Boone Draw Fire is over 6,000 acres and is burning on BLM and private land in pinyon-juniper, grass, and some sage in the southwestern portion of the fire. At last report, the fire was at 5 percent contained. It was reported Thursday, September 13th, before noon. Hot and windy weather are the main reason for the fire spreading to over 6,000 acres. Firefighters are actively suppressing the fire on the east and west flanks using Highway 318 as an anchor point and working northward. There were about 100 Moffat County and BLM personnel assigned to the fire with additional resources coming and going. A closure has been implemented on BLM public lands around the fire area for the protection of the public and firefighter safety.
