Amazing fishing in northeastern Utah and around the state is watched over by a group that most do not even know exists. The Division of Wildlife Resources explains that the quality of the designated Blue Ribbon Fisheries around the state is monitored and helped along by the Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council. There are 16 different waters in the Uinta Mountains designated as Blue Ribbon Fisheries as well as the Lower Stillwater Ponds, Duchesne River, Currant Creek Reservoir, Strawberry Reservoir, Starvation Reservoir, Lake Canyon Lake, Calder Reservoir, Flaming Gorge, and the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. Each of these Blue Ribbon Fisheries’ status means the water has been reviewed by the DWR and the Advisory Council for fishing quality, outdoor experience, habitat, and economic benefits to be considered among the highest quality fisheries in the state.
