The Bureau of Land Management Utah State Office opened a 30-day public protest period on Wednesday to receive public input on a Uintah County oil and gas parcel that may be included in an upcoming lease sale. This period follows the scoping of 13 parcels encompassing over 16,600 acres within Uintah County after which the BLM determined that 6 parcels were moving forward. A 30-day public comment period took place this summer and upon its conclusion, the BLM selected just one parcel from the proposed parcels to be included in the 2023 Quarter 4 Lease Sale. The one remaining parcel encompasses about 760 acres and that parcel is now the focus of the 30-day protest period. The BLM notes that “the most useful protests are those that identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information.” The protest period ends September 22nd at 4:30pm.
