The biological but non-custodial mother of a Vernal child that was the target of a kidnapping attempt last spring has been arrested. 31-year-old Lindsey Colleen Morrell was taken into custody on September 10th on charges that resemble those of the group members originally arrested in the May kidnapping plot. 32-year-old Beth Marilyn Schardine, 36-year-old Ty Lucero Whetten, and 24-year-old Kaitlyn Anne Bachman were arrested in Vernal in May and 52-year-old Amanda Kaye Bachman was arrested in August on charges related to the attempted kidnapping. In January of this year, Utah County Sheriff’s deputies visited Amanda Bachman’s Goshen residence with a “Writ of Assistance to Remove a Child” to return a 3-year-old child that was in the home to the girl’s father in Uintah County, who had legal custody. On May 15th, Schardine, Whetten, and Kaitlyn Bachman were arrested and charged after forcefully entering the father’s home in Uintah County with the alleged intention of taking the child, who was home at the time. Police arrived and the plot was foiled. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, Morrell and Amanda Bachman’s involvement includes false claims to police and months of planning leading up to the kidnapping attempt.
