The Big Red Fire located in northwest Colorado near the Wyoming border has doubled in size. An update released on Tuesday states that major growth of the fire in the past several days is to the east, moving toward the Continental Divide. Unfortunately, weather is expected to remain hot and dry with isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds which will likely result in more active fire behavior. The lightning caused fire started on August 19th and has spread to over 1,400 acres. Another fire in northwestern Colorado has prompted pre-evacuation orders. The Deep Creek Fire started on Monday in West Routt County and the fire grew to over 400 acres in a very short timeframe. Nearby residents have been advised to be prepared to leave their homes if necessary. It’s believed that the lightning caused Steer Park Fire from a week ago that was believed to be out may have reignited over the weekend resulting in Monday’s fire.
