Multiple wildfires are burning on the Ute Indian Reservation. According to the ‘BIA Forestry & Wildland Fire – Uintah & Ouray Agency’, the West Wildhorse Fire started on Thursday and is located about 70 miles south of Fort Duchesne in the Wildhorse Basin area east of the Green River/Desolation Canyon. On Saturday, the Incident Commander reported the wildfire as 75 percent contained. On Sunday, the fire held at 82 acres and was expected to be 100 percent contained Sunday night. Unfortunately, a new wildfire named the Bear Trap Fire was reported on Saturday just before 1:00pm located just north of Bear Trap Knoll west of Big Springs in Hill Creek on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. The Bear Trap Fire was reported on Saturday as just under 5 acres on a ridge. A helicopter immediately began bucket work. The Bear Trap Fire is inaccessible by vehicle and not safe for firefighters to approach from the ground.
