There was a little end of the school year excitement in Roosevelt on Thursday morning. Union High School administration informed parents and guardians through email that a bear had been spotted crossing 1500 East headed into Ballard. All were told that the DNR was investigating and would take care of the bear. The public was asked not to panic or to go looking for the bear but to be Bear Aware. Administrators of Roosevelt area schools were alerted and took steps to ensure the safety of the students and staff. After the excitement, one Union High School teacher, Mr. Michael North, joked that this bear clearly didn’t get the memo that Union High is the COUGARS not the BEARS. As of Thursday evening, wildlife officials shared that the bear had not been spotted again and was believed to have made its way out of town.
