A local swimming team is doing great things in club competition. Coach Mindy Brooksby started Basin Blast Swimming 5 years ago to give local swimmers more opportunities for competition. The program has grown in that time to include youth from Roosevelt, Vernal, and Price. Ten swimmers competed at state competitions in recent weeks which is the largest group they have had to date. A few swimmers competed in St. George the last weekend of February and the rest competed at the Utah Age Group State Championships on the Wasatch Front the first weekend in March where there were over 780 swimmers competing. While they all did well, 3 swimmers competed exceptionally well. 12-year-old Tierany Spence and 12-year-old Alexander Spainhower each swam 7 events and placed in finals for all of their events at the Utah Age Group State Championships. 18-year-old Artor Darii qualified for sectionals and is going to sectional championships the end of March in Austin, Texas.
