A bald eagle was struck on a Uintah County roadway during the busy morning commute on Tuesday morning. DWR Northeastern Region Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby reports that several calls came in as the bald eagle was seen on the road off of 3500 West in Vernal. “A Utah Division of Law Enforcement conservation officer responded to the scene and transported the bird to a nearby wildlife rehabilitation facility where the animal’s health was assessed,” shares Kieffer-Selby. “Unfortunately, the bird was severely injured and had to be euthanized. During the winter months, it is common for eagles and other raptors to feed on roadkill on the sides of the road. We want to remind drivers to stay alert and to watch for wildlife when traveling on Utah’s roadways.” Tips on how to avoid wildlife collisions are available on wildawareutah.org.
