Flood control improvements, particularly near Yellow Hill in Uintah County, are one step closer to happening. Community Development Director Matt Cazier presented a proposed agreement as part of the Central Canal Piping Project between the NRCS and Uintah County during the Uintah County Commission meeting on Tuesday. The NRCS is part of the Department of Agriculture and is providing the majority of the funds for the flood control project, awarding over $4 million dollars as their portion. Cazier explained that Uintah County’s portion will be to cover land acquisition, permits, and construction administration for an estimated total of $311,000 dollars. Those costs for the County could be reduced if property is donated. The amount of funding will determine how many detention basins can be built. Cazier said they are looking at two right now; one on 500 North near Yellow Hill and one on the other side of Yellow Hill in the Coal Mine Basin. The north side is SITLA land and Cazier said he is working with them on obtaining an easement for that. The Commission unanimously approved the Resolution outlining the watershed work plan agreement with the NRCS.
