Ashley National Forest is working with the public to provide a mutually beneficial service. The Timber Sales program provides timber for businesses to produce logs, fence posts, and regular lumber. The Forest Service hires contractors to cut and trim timber for decks, selling about 2000 cords per year. According to District Ranger Tom Parrack, some roads are temporarily open to remove firewood and the Forest Service has maps available to better access the areas with firewood.
