Hunters are being asked to learn or relearn the basic rules of the Forest ahead of hunting season. Ashley National Forest has asked hunters to “please ensure that you have a safe backstop behind your target” and to remember that shooting firearms or archery equipment is not allowed in campgrounds on the Ashley National Forest. Also remember that Ashley National Forest has designated a system of roads and trails for motorized vehicles that include cars, trucks, ATV’s/OHV’s, and all classes of electronic bikes. All are asked to “please stay on routes designated for motorized vehicles to ensure future access and protect the lands cherished by many.” Free Motorized Vehicle Use Maps are available in the Forest offices and on the AVENZA app. The app is handy as it uses the GPS in your phone to show your location on the map. All the maps are free to download by searching for Ashley National Forest or Ashley NF in the AVENZA app. Once the maps are downloaded on your phone, cell service is not needed to access them. Finally, remember that travel off designated routes with motorized vehicles for the retrieval of big game animals is NOT allowed on the Ashley National Forest so please plan accordingly.
