The Vernal Ranger District is encouraging those gathering firewood by permit to utilize the area along the Hacking Lake Road (FSR 043) for collection. “Over the past few years this area has not been available to firewood cutters due to timber sales in the area,” shares the Forest Service. “These timber sales have finished, and the area is now open for personal use permits. For those looking for logs that have already been felled, there are two firewood collection areas on the Red Cloud Loop. These areas have larger diameter, green wood that has been felled by fire crews and is available for collection with a firewood permit. For a smaller diameter option, there is a lot of felled, bucked, small diameter wood north of East Park where thinning was conducted during June of this year.”
