Preparations are underway for prescribed burning in the Ashley National Forest. The Duchesne/Roosevelt Ranger District will have prescribed fires
beginning October 1st
and running
through December 25th.
According to public affairs officer Louis Haynes, the projects are dependant on weather conditions. The Reservation Ridge East Sagebrush project area covers over 1,500 acres and is located on the south unit of the Duchesne Ranger District about 20 miles southwest of Duchesne. The plan is to reduce or temporarily eliminate shrub canopies that increase vegetative ground cover and enhance the frequency and diversity of plant species. The Reservation Ridge Piles project will treat about 100 acres and is located approximately 3 miles west of the Avantaquin Campground, along the Reservation Ridge scenic byway. The first project area to meet weather and burning condition requirements will be started.
