As part of the Vernal Municipal Watershed Restoration Project, the Ashley National Forest will start work along the Red Cloud Loop Road. The Shaded Fuel Break Project will create a fuel break 300 feet in depth along the west side of the Red Cloud Loop Road from the turn off to Ashley Twin Lakes to the turn off to Trout Creek Guard Station. This fuel break changes the fuel characteristics so it limits future wildland fire and improves the safety of the firefighters and the public. The treatment, which will begin next week, will chip the trees and woody debris using a mulching head attachment on an excavator type machine. There will be up to four machines working on the project at any one time. It is expected that the project will run through October. Signs will be placed along the road in the active work zone. Short delays may be expected as trees are removed from the roadway.
