Vernal Velociraptors Hosting East Region Mountain Bike Races This Weekend

Hotels and campgrounds will be full and restaurants busy this weekend as over 1400 mountain bikers and their families flock to Vernal for the much anticipated East Region race at Buckskin Hills. The Vernal Velociraptors pull team members from all over the Uintah Basin and includes a high school and junior high team that are all eager for this weekend. “We have trained hard and set goals. We are ready for this race,” shares Velociraptor Coach Cheryl Meier. The team has 13 seniors eager to set some personal records during the last race on their home course but perhaps more than that, the entire team is eager to give their all as they have dedicated their season to the Davis family. Vernal Police Cpl. Troy Davis was a dedicated coach with two sons on the team when he passed away in July due to a medical event following a practice ride with the team. It has been a difficult time for the entire team and they wanted to do something to show their support following this time of unimaginable loss. In order to honor the Davis family, the Vernal Velociraptor team is going to honor Coach Davis and his family at the start of the Varsity race this Saturday at 10am. Good luck to all the racers and those joining in remembering Coach Cpl. Troy Davis and his family.
