By Kristin Forbis, Sep 13, 2021
Dinosaur National Monument announced Friday that, due to current and forecasted weather, the Monument has moved from Stage 2 to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Restrictions for the monument include prohibition of: Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire outside of a developed recreation site or improved site except at Echo Park Campground and Gates of Lodore Campground, where ALL fires are prohibited including in monument fire rings. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material. Fireworks are always prohibited in Dinosaur National Monument. The intent of Stage 1 Fire Restrictions is to reduce the number of human-caused fires during periods of very high fire danger, by decreasing potential sources of ignition. Any violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000, or imprisonment up to six months, or both.
