UDOT Urges Uinta Basin Drivers to Make Safety in Work Zones a Top Priority

While UDOT is asking all Utah drivers to exercise caution in construction work zones, they are calling out Uinta Basin residents in particular this construction season. The UDOT announcement emphasizes that with nine highway construction projects planned or under construction this year in Duchesne, Uintah and Daggett Counties, UDOT asks drivers in the Uintah Basin to put away distractions and pay attention to the road to help keep travelers and workers safe. “In the Uinta Basin,” the announcement continues, “drivers should be aware of two major projects underway along U.S. 40 and one on State Route 121. One is at Starvation Reservoir, where crews are repairing the bridge driving surface and replacing the parapet walls (side walls on a bridge). The highway is reduced to one lane, with alternating traffic controlled by temporary signals. The other work zones are in Vernal, where a project to upgrade storm drain systems has closed an eastbound lane on Main Street and is shifting traffic at various intersections and the other project is rebuilding sidewalk crossings on 500 North in advance of pavement resurfacing scheduled to begin in early June. These work zones have crews and equipment working close to traffic, and require drivers to follow posted signs and signals.”
