Uintah Basin Emergency Care Conference a Hit
By Kristin Forbis, Feb 11, 2020
The annual gathering of real life superheroes was a success over the weekend at the Uintah Basin Emergency Care Conference held at the Uintah Conference Center. “UBECC 2020 was a hit,” shares event committee member and Gold Cross Director Scott Adams. “We had approximately 200 in attendance with presenters from all over the country, such as the mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs.” Audience members were from the Uintah Basin and beyond and consisted mostly of Dispatch, EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement, and Hospital Staff. In addition to speakers and training, the 2-day conference kept the tradition going of skills challenges. The Gold Cross Ambulance team won the Mega Code Challenge, keeping the traveling bed pan trophy within the Gold Cross family for the fifth year in a row. The Law Enforcement Challenge was won again by the team from Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. Naples City Fire Department won the Fire Skills Challenge which was especially fitting as they spent time that same day in the bitter cold of the night trying to save a family’s home in Naples. Naples Fire Chief Brett Reynolds took to Facebook congratulating his team and praising his firemen for their dedication to leave their homes, jobs, and families to serve others. Also awarded at the conference was Ivan Merrell as the recipient of the UBECC 2020 Kevin Orr Memorial Award. Congratulations to all and a sincere thanks to all the emergency responders who keep us safe and provide help during emergencies.
