Work is scheduled to begin today to treat waters in the High Uintas Wilderness Oweep Basin to remove non-native fish for the re-introduction of Colorado River Cutthroat Trout. “The purpose of this closure is to protect public health and safety and natural resources,” shares the announcement. “During this closure all National Forest Service lands within 20 feet of the following waters will be closed to the public in the northeastern portion of the Lake Fork Drainage in the Oweep Basin: Porcupine Lake, Oweep Creek, and the tributaries of Oweep Creek.” This area in Duchesne County does not include the National Forest Service Highline Trail and Lake Fork Trail. Ashely National Forest will be working with the Division of Wildlife Resources on this project from July 31st to August 6th.
