An Amber Alert issued out of Duchesne County on Wednesday was cancelled a short time later when the missing child was found safe. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, a 4-year-old boy was reported missing by his family at their Fruitland home at about 3:30pm. Due to the family’s remote location, a deputy reached the family’s property about 30 minutes later and a search of a few square miles, including along Red Creek, began with additional deputies and detectives. They were joined by a Classic Air Medical helicopter crew and a Uintah County Sheriff K9 handler and her bloodhound. Because the boy had still not been located and because a family member recalled seeing a dark gray Nissan sedan pull onto the property around the time the boy was last missing, Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker decided to issue an Amber Alert at about 6:25pm. “It had been more than two hours with 20 people searching and we still hadn’t found him,” explained Sheriff Tucker. “My thought process was to bring the whole world in ‒ helicopters, search and rescue, everyone. We could always turn the extra help around if we found him.” At about 6:50pm, detectives were conducting another search around the property when the boy was found sleeping in the corner of an outbuilding. The boy was checked out by EMTs and found to be in good condition. The Amber Alert was cancelled at 6:59pm. After the incident Sheriff Tucker expressed gratitude that things turned out the way they did and that the boy is safe.
