Many in the community are excited for tomorrow’s special Veterans Day Community Flag Retirement Ceremony being held between the Uintah Conference Center and Western Park and all are invited to come participate.
There will be several special opportunities during the 7 hour event. At 11am, just two blocks away, the Army National Guard will perform a wreath ceremony at the Uintah County war memorial before heading to the Western Park.
The ceremony there at noon will retire the massive 70 foot American flag that has flown during many Uintah County events. Cranes will raise it and then lower it into the fire. The ceremony will include taps, a 21 gun salute, and the national anthem.
After the burning ceremony, a new 75 foot flag will be raised by Panhandle Oilfield Services that will fly over the parades and community events in the years to come. After the ceremony there will be fire pits available for anyone to respectfully retire flags. Before being retired, a star can be cut from the flag and a special card attached to remember the flag and what it represents.
There is also an opportunity for those who want to display their loved ones’ casket flag with a picture of the Veteran and have a moment to highlight the Veteran’s life. Families, individuals, businesses, and groups are invited to come share in the experience anytime between 11am and 6pm on Friday, November 11th.
