Aggressive Bear Caught; Stay ‘Bear Aware’ When In The Outdoors

by | Aug 12, 2024 | News | 0 comments

With increased nuisance bear reports this year, Ashley National Forest has some positive
news. The aggressive bear that had been frequenting the Browne Lake Group
Campground on the Ashley National Forest has been caught. The Forest Service and
Division of Wildlife Resources worked together to catch the bear and the trap has now
been removed and the campground has reopened. Don’t get too relaxed though because
there have been other reports of nuisance bears in the region. “During the past few weeks,
there have been additional nuisance bear encounters in this general area,” shares the
Ashley National Forest announcement. “This includes dispersed camping sites between
Browne Lake and Spirit Lake. UDWR has placed additional traps within these areas,
including areas near Long Park Reservoir and Sheep Creek Lake…We remind visitors
within these areas to be conscious of potential bear activity, and practice ‘Bear Aware’
techniques. Bears are attracted to campsites where food is not safely stored or disposed
of. Please store your food out of reach after each use. Never feed a bear.” Learn more
