With the pieces falling into place, it appears that electric scooters, similar to those seen in downtown Salt Lake City, will soon be available to rent in Vernal. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion presented on the prospect at the City County meeting on Monday. He explained that the Active and Healthy Committee has been working with Bird Rides, Inc. who will operate the stand-up electric scooters system within the City of Vernal. Bennion encouraged the County to consider allowing the scooters in some County locations such as the USU and UBTech campuses. Vernal City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Bird Rides, Inc and it is anticipated that the scooters will be operational in April. The idea is there will be scooter kiosks at key locations but the scooters travels will be limited within a geofence boundary. Vernal City will have no ownership but are simply working with and welcoming Bird Rides, Inc. as they kick it off in Vernal this spring.
