Daggett County is ready to move on from the 2017 jail scandal but the American Civil Liberties Union has made it clear they have no intention of backing off their lawsuit that remains against the county. The former sheriff and four former deputies tied to the inmate abuse have gone through the court process on a variety of charges. What remains is the American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit that still names current Sheriff Erik Bailey, former Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen, and Daggett County. Two months ago, a motion was filed by Daggett County to dismiss the lawsuit. The judge has yet to respond but the ACLU clapped back this month with the following message: “The ACLU of Utah is committed to making sure that every person and agency responsible for abusing prisoners, fostering the culture where that abuse occurred, and turning their backs to the abuse… is held accountable for their actions.” They filed a response to Daggett County’s motion, indicating they have no intention of backing off. It is unclear when a response from a federal judge is expected.
