Can you see the horse on the roof? Once commissioned for a sign on Main Street Vernal, this horse has spent the past 25 plus years in storage. The horse on the proposed Western Park sign was intended to greet visitors and direct them to Uintah County’s new equestrian facility, said Western Park Manager, Derk Hatch. Unfortunately, the Western Park sign on the corner of 3rd east and main wouldn’t support the weight of the horse according to Hatch. Consequently, the horse, with no name, was sentenced to a “dark and dingy” Uintah County storage facility until county staff “pardoned” the horse and displayed him high on top of the 4-H Extension offices adjacent to Western Park. Now if you find yourself driving along 200 South and 300 East in Vernal, look up and smile and if you can think of an appropriate name, stop and share your idea with the good staff at Western Park, they’d love to hear from you!
