Dinosaur National Monument Highlights Amazing Female Scientists

Many may have not heard that it was International Day of Women and Girls in Science but Dinosaur National Monument is making sure the Basin is in the know. They posted on their Facebook a highlight of two remarkable women of science from the area. Ruth Ann Wolf Bradley and Kathleen Dever were prolific botanists who lived in the Roundtop Mountain Fire Lookout in 1948. They explored and collected over 280 plant specimens for the Dinosaur and University of Colorado herbaria. Of those collected, 139 were species new to the park’s records (that is 17% of today’s known specimen). It is amazing to discover the stories and the people that make up the history of this region.
