Efforts To Remedy Local Substitute Shortage Making Positive Difference

The substitute shortage in schools has been a hot topic across the country including locally. The topic was discussed during the Uintah School Board work session on Wednesday and the efforts to address the shortage in Uintah School District have remedied the problem. In January, the District was seeing a growing trend in sub shortages with so many teachers and staff out with sickness. Many days had over 20 positions not filled by substitutes. The administration took a varied approach and offered a $100 bonus for every 5 days subbed and also teamed up with UBTech to hold more substitute training classes to add more substitutes to the pool. The good news is the shortage drastically decreased and the Superintendent said they will continue to monitor the situation.
