Participating in a Tik Tok challenge has once again come with real life consequences for local youth. According to Vernal Police Department, two juveniles have been referred to 8th District Juvenile Court for multiple charges after shooting individuals with an airsoft type weapon from a moving vehicle. Police received multiple calls on Monday from individuals who reported being struck by the projectiles. Police investigation identified two suspects and an Orbeez gun was recovered. Though marketed as a toy, Orbeez guns are accurate for a substantial distance and the projectile is capable of inflicting injury. Firing one at a person is a crime. “It was also discovered during the investigation that the suspects involved were acting as the result of a Tik Tok Challenge,” shares Vernal Police. “A criminal act being acted out as the result of a challenge IS a crime and often victimizes people or property. These criminal acts will be prosecuted, and come with real consequences and real victims.” Anyone with information regarding additional suspects is encouraged to call Vernal Police at 435-789-5835 or Central Dispatch at 435-789-4222.
