February is American Heart Month, a time when the nation spotlights the number 1 killer of Americans, heart disease. President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first proclamation in 1964 and since then, U.S. presidents have annually declared February American Heart Month. Local Doctor Karl Breitenbach is passionate about spotlighting heart health as he was diagnosed with a dangerous heart defect as an adult. He emphasizes that the heart is a critically important organ and that by age 30 to 35 all should think about having a cardiac exam that looks at blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Many people don’t realize that heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Check out Dr. Breitenbach’s entire video message on the Uintah Basin Healthcare Facebook page.
