January was a busy month for Search and Rescue teams around Strawberry Reservoir with multiple incidents with lost snowmobilers. On January 23rd, dispatch received a call of a lost snowmobiler at about 5:00pm after a group returned to the trailhead at Strawberry River with one of their party missing. Search and Rescue teams were deployed to the area to assist and the missing person was discovered after several hours of searching in the dark. The 52-year-old male had abandoned his snowmobile that had become stuck and was attempting to walk out. Thankfully, he was found without injury. On January 28th, Wasatch County Search and Rescue responded to a call of 2 overdue snowmobilers in the Strawberry Reservoir area. The male and female, both in their 70’s, were expected back by dark but did not arrive. The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in to help search as temperatures were dangerously cold at 12 below zero. The couple was found on the southwest side of Strawberry Reservoir in the Squaw Creek area and were taken to safety by helicopter. The nose of their snowmobile had become lodged while driving down a slope.
