Redistricting changes will go into effect in 2023 and when that happens, Uintah, Duchesne, and Daggett Counties will be included in Utah’s 3rd District which will be represented by Congressman John Curtis. Rep. Curtis made time for an interview with Newstalk KVEL on Monday to give the Basin an idea of who will soon be representing them in Washington. During the interview, Curtis shared that he supports the Uintah Railway project as well as energy development. In fact, when asked where his interests align with fossil fuel and energy production, Curtis went into detail on his work with the Conservative Climate Caucus and his efforts to counteract the narrative that fossil fuels are bad. “I think I’ve done more in Congress to save more oil and gas jobs than any member in Congress,” stated Curtis. “[There is a] false narrative that fossil fuels are somehow bad and somehow harming the environment. I’ve stood up louder in Congress and said that is absolutely wrong. Fossil fuels are actually one of the reasons we are as healthy as we are in the environment. We could do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide using U.S. fossil fuels than anything else in the Green New Deal. I’ve articulated that back in Washington, I’ve shouted that from the housetops and people are actually listening.” Curtis says he supports domestic energy production on public lands and says that the U.S. has actually reduced more greenhouse gas emission issues in the last decade utilizing fossil fuels than the efforts of climate controlled countries combined. Curtis says he founded the Conservative Climate Caucus so that conservatives can have a seat at the table when it comes to the topic of climate control. “I think it’s a mistake for conservatives to not engage in this debate,” said Curtis. “When we don’t engage, they get away with the lies.” To listen to the interview, click here: https://basinnow.com/public_affairs.php
