Omicron COVID Variant Likely To Strain Local Hospitals; Please Prevent Spread

While cases of COVID-19 have recently been on the decline, community members are asked to increase their precautions to prevent the spread of illness as the Omicron variant is spreading across the region. “We expect case numbers to increase very rapidly since this variant is far more contagious,” shares TriCounty Health Director Kirk Benge. “While studies suggest that Omicron will cause less severe disease in most people, the large volume of infections is very likely to strain our local hospitals and our referral hospitals over the next few weeks. We ask the community to take precautions over the next few weeks to help prevent spread, especially to our most vulnerable people.”  Please stay home if you feel sick or if someone in your household feels sick. Vaccinations, including boosters, provide protection for all COVID variants. “I personally believe this Omicron wave is key to help us move past this pandemic and get things back to normal,” shares Benge. “We remain forever thankful to our amazing healthcare workers who continue to devote themselves to saving lives. We ask the community to continue to support our local doctors, nurses and healthcare workers by taking extra precautions for the next few weeks.” COVID testing is available at the TriCounty Health Vernal and Roosevelt offices during regular business hours.
