A sheriff’s deputy out of Sweetwater County, Wyoming received a much deserved award this week during the Sweetwater County Commission meeting. On the night of October 7th, Deputy Chris Sutton responded to a report of a baby choking on food in the car. Upon arrival, Deputy Sutton assessed that the 7-month-old infant was conscious but not breathing and was starting to turn red. He removed the infant from the vehicle and immediately began administering life-saving measures that successfully dislodged the blockage from the infant’s airway. He then escorted the infant and the family to the hospital where it was determined there was no injury. “Deputy Sutton’s proactive response to the scene, his astute recognition of the severity of the medical emergency, and his immediate actions and effective use of the Infant Heimlich Maneuver directly resulted in saving this small child’s life,” shares the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. “Moreover, a failure to act or any delay in action in this situation may have very well led to an unnecessary and tragic outcome.” Deputy Sutton was given the special Life Saving Award that included a framed letter of commendation and a special service ribbon for his dress uniform. Well done Deputy Sutton and thank you for your dedicated service!
