Prosecutors have dropped the sexual abuse charge against a former bishop after prosecutors considered additional evidence. On September 16th, 63-year-old James Douglas Robinson was charged with 2nd Degree Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse after a 15-year-old female claimed that he had touched her inappropriately in the summer during a church camp in Duchesne County. The Duchesne County Attorney’s Office filed the motion for the case to be dismissed and it was signed by the judge on November 12th. Robinson’s attorney shared with KSL News that the additional evidence included timelines, receipts, and additional witness statements that proved Robinson’s innocence. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared the following statement: “Consistent with its policies, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported this matter when these allegations were disclosed, and the bishop was released while the investigation proceeded. We understand that following their investigation, civil authorities have dropped all charges. We hope that all involved can find the peace and healing they need.” Robinson’s attorney said they do not know why the false accusation was made but that what was claimed was just not true.
