Winter conditions and insufficient tread on tires were contributors in a tragic and fatal accident on Highway 40 near Strawberry Reservoir on Wednesday. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident took place
at 3:15pm
at Mile Post 52 about 1 mile east of the Soldier Creek Turn. “SR-40 in the area of the crash was snowy and icy,” shares Highway Patrol. “A green Ford Expedition was eastbound on SR-40 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It slid sideways into the westbound lanes of travel [and] the driver side of the Expedition impacted with the front plow portion of a westbound UDOT snow plow.” The Expedition’s driver and rear seat driver side passenger were both killed in the impact. The other two occupants in the Expedition were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, as was the driver of the snow plow. “It appears that speed on the snowy roads and equipment issues were contributing factors,” shares UHP. “The front tires of the Expedition were sufficient, however the rear tires were largely bald and in an unsafe condition.” Our condolences to those mourning those lost in this tragic accident.
