The Utah Petroleum Association is turning to residents in the Uintah Basin asking for support of their Utah Energy United initiative as a way to stand against the open-ended moratorium on federal oil and natural gas leasing. UPA is specifically asking those in Uintah Basin communities to join their coalition by visiting their website, filling out a contact information form, and choosing how to participate. “In so many ways the Uintah Basin is the beating heart of Utah’s oil and gas industry,” shares UPA President Rikki Hrenko-Browning. “The economic impact generated not only locally, but that ripples throughout the Utah economy, is something that not enough people recognize or appreciate. That’s why an initiative like Utah Energy United is so vital. We want to ensure that decisions that get made thousands of miles away about oil and gas development don’t happen without, at the very least, hearing the voices and the stories from those closest to where that development happens. That’s why the Uintah Basin is a huge focus for us.” Only time will tell how far the effects of the current Executive Orders will reach.
