Construction in the Uintah Basin has inspired UDOT to remind drivers to make safety the top priority while on the roads. Last year in Utah, there were 3,329 crashes in work zones, a 10 percent increase in the past five years. Those crashes resulted in 1,511 injuries and 10 deaths. In order to reduce these numbers and make Utah highways safer, UDOT offers the following tips for drivers when traveling in work zones: Stay alert and minimize distractions. Obey posted signs and signals. Follow the posted speed limit. In Utah, fines are doubled for traffic violations in work zones, so be sure to slow down. “Our goal is zero crashes, injuries, and fatalities,” shared Rob Clayton, UDOT Region Three director. “Accomplishing this requires a partnership with the driving public. As a department, we are committed to do everything in our power to work toward that goal, and we will need everyone’s help to make it a reality.”
