The wildlife of Utah is one of the most precious commodities of the state. The Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for members of the community to help manage this commodity. DWR needs individuals to complete the five Regional Advisory Councils (RAC). Each RAC has six special interest members: hunters, anglers and trappers; those who don’t hunt or fish; ranchers and farmers; locally-elected public officials; federal land-management agencies; and the rest of the public at large. For our area, the Northeastern Region, they are looking for a non-consumptive representative (someone that does not hunt or fish). The commitment involves gathering six times a year for a three to five hour meeting. In the meeting, members “listen to proposals from Division of Wildlife Resources biologists about hunting, fishing and wildlife management in Utah. They also take input from the public about the proposals.” They then vote and the chairperson gives that input to the Utah Wildlife Board, who make the final decisions. If interested, contact a conservation group or organization in the region and request that they nominate you to serve in the vacancy.
