Even though the snow is melting, the Uintah Basin is not out of the woods when it comes to high ozone. Director of the USU Bingham Research Center Dr. Seth Lyman announced Thursday that there is a reasonable likelihood that the Uinta Basin will exceed the EPA standard over the weekend and possibly into next week. “Inversion conditions will likely start building tomorrow,” shares Dr. Lyman. “Please take actions that will reduce ozone-forming emissions…The snow is melting out, and many of the washes and gullies are filled with rivers of meltwater, but there is enough snow left that we expect high ozone will occur.” Since we do have less snow, the inversion is expected to be weaker and the ozone levels will not be as high as in the past.
